Rust & Roots welcomes new ideas, flavor combinations, and creative designs!
Most designs are created using buttercream (no fondant), so that your cake tastes as good as it looks. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Traditional Cake Flavors


​​Traditional Vanilla

A crowd pleaser that is simple and sweet - enjoyed with traditional buttercream.


​Chocolate Syrup
A take on traditional chocolate cake - real chocolate syrup is included in the recipe for a moist, rich, decedent dessert. Strawberry or raspberry filling can be added for a small charge. Best paired with Chocolate or Traditional Buttercream.

Heirloom Cake Flavors

Plum / Peach / Strawberry / Blackberry / Raspberry
These cakes are what started the business! A customer favorite, these recipes were adapted from the original Strawberry recipe passed down from Catherine's Great Aunt Pearl to her Nana. Created with homegrown fruit grown on her family's land in
Yadkin County, NC or sourced from local farmers. These cakes include a filling and are traditionally paired with whipped icing for a luxurious, light dessert.


Lemon
Lemon zest and freshly squeezed juice are incorporated into the batter for a refreshing treat. Options to add blueberry or raspberry filling for a heightened experience. Enjoy with traditional buttercream or cream cheese icing.

Pink Lemonade
Quickly becoming a customer favorite! Adapted from Catherine's mother's recipe to create a perfect balance between tart and sweet.

Red Velvet
Passed down from Catherine's paternal great-grandmother -
who used to work in the school cafeteria making this recipe in large batches!
A dash of dark roast coffee in this recipe creates depth and ups the flavor's intensity.


​Italian Creme
​A personal favorite flavor passed down from Catherine's Nana. Moist layers are packed with pecans and coconut and topped with a coconut-cream cheese frosting.

Oreo
Rich chocolate layers filled with Oreo buttercream - a chocolate lover's delight!

Pumpkin
Developed by Catherine's sister - pairs well with cream cheese icing.

Banana Split
An heirloom recipe from Catherine's maternal great-grandmother. Her Nana remembers having this often while growing up! The batter incorporates bananas, maraschino cherries, and pecans. Traditionally served with a rich caramel icing, but also pairs well with traditional buttercream.

Fresh Apple
A customer favorite - spices and Granny Smith apples come together to make the perfect fall dessert. Goes well with cream cheese icing or traditional buttercream.

White Wine
Originally a pound cake recipe from Catherine's Nana. Moist layers are created with bubbly wine and a dash of cinnamon. Best enjoyed with traditional buttercream.

Cannoli
Cinnamon cake layers are dressed with a rich ricotta-based filling, mini chocolate chips, and traditional buttercream.

Carrot
Passed down from Catherine's Nana - fresh carrots and pineapple are finely chopped into the batter. Best paired with cream cheese icing or traditional buttercream.

German Chocolate
Rich layers are created with real German Chocolate. Traditionally served with a sweet coconut filling in between the layers and topped with chocolate buttercream icing.

Espresso
A new recipe developed by Catherine - espresso is added to vanilla cake for a rich, roasted undertone. Paired with coffee buttercream, this cake is sure to be a coffee lover's dream.
