Our Story
Growing up, my Papa, sister, and I would
spend lazy summer days swinging.
The swing ; a staple that characterizes my grandparent’s house + one that has been there ever since I can remember.
If you look close, you might notice the old rusty chains that somehow still support the swing...the result of years of weathering and pressure (from holding us up!). A second take will lead you to the roots of the mighty tree that ripple the surrounding ground showing the years of growth and prosperity.
Rust and Roots was born out of this simply analogy.
Think about it.
Sometimes we ourselves are weathered in life's storms, put under pressure, or even lead to discontentment because we are where we've always been....
stuck in a situation, routine, or location.
But what if we changed our perspective to see the rust as our roots?
The trials of life as our reason for personal growth and prosperity?
The rust as a means of preservation?
I often think that without the stability of the tree, the swing would have fallen ages ago. Just how the tree has continually stood firm and been beside the rusty chains throughout life, so has Jesus for the Christ follower.
We can have hope because we can be rooted in the unchanging truth of Jesus' redemption story. We're not just rusting away because we can have purpose in our personal mission field.
Rust & Roots is a charge to have the eyes of Jesus, seek and fill needs in our community, and know that God has placed you exactly where you need to be.
